Poznań Trade Fair Meetings 2010 - summary
Poznań is reading to children!
Poznań will entertain youngest admirers of literature and authors of books for children and young people from 4th to 6th March 2011. It is already the tenth time that Poznań Fair Meetings "Books for Children and Young People" will be held.
Poznań is one of the oldest Polish cities. It constitutes the center of Polish culture, science and business. Over ten years ago in Poznań on the initiative of Polish Association of Book Publishers, an idea to establish the place of meetings of creators of books for children and young people - authors, illustrators, translators, and tradesmen with readers, was originated. Nowadays, Poznań Fair Meetings "Books for Children and Young People" is the only fair in the Central Europe entirely devoted to books for young readers. This year the fair has been honored by 38 thousand visitors.
"Books for Children and Young People" Poznań Fair Meetings are dedicated both to professionals - publishers, owners of bookshops, librarians, as well as to audience - young readers, their parents and teachers.
Exceptional character of the fair is related to numerous events that accompany the exhibition, as for instance conferences, discussion panels, meetings with authors, workshops for children, performances, games, competitions and plays. The last day of the fair is traditionally the Family Day.
Every year, concurrently with the fair, numerous interesting events are held in the city. They include meetings with authors, workshops in libraries, schools and centers of culture. Additionally, a colorful Fairytale Tram runs in Poznań taking children with their parents to the area of the fair.
The fair is visited by most famous Polish authors of children's literature as well as by foreign publishers. The list of honorary guests of this year's edition of the Poznań Fair Meetings includes Lithuania and Poznań partner cities: Brno (the Czech Republic), Kharkov (Ukraine) and Györ (Hungary).
The art of the book
Books for children are the most beautiful books as they are a harmonious connection of the art of words and visual arts; they are often masterpieces of the editorial art. Thus, the symbol of the Poznań Fair Meetings "Books for Children and Young People" is a wooden rocking Little Pegasus - a younger friend of a winged horse which is a symbol of poetic and artistic inspiration.
"Books for Children and Young People" Poznań Fair Meetings offer a wide presentation of the art of illustrations. Every year several exhibitions devoted to illustrations and the book graphic art are organized within the scope of the fair. This year an exhibition of an excellent Polish painter, sculptor and the master of illustrations - Mr. Józef Wilkoń added splendor to the fair.
This year Poznań Fair Meetings "Books for Children and Young People" were solemnly declared open by Mrs. Maria Kaczyńska, the wife of the President of Poland. The Minister of Culture and National Heritage, the Minister of National Education and the President of the City of Poznań assumed honorary patronage over Poznań Fair Meetings "Books for Children and Young People".
